AI visibility prompts for B2B SaaS
By Şamil Quliyev · Updated 2026-09-15
For B2B SaaS, AI visibility is decided in the shortlist phase: a buyer asks an assistant which tools solve a problem, and two or three names come back. Tracking that means running the questions buyers actually ask — category best-of, head-to-head comparisons, integration questions, pricing questions and switching questions — rather than your own brand name.
Who is asking
The person asking is usually mid-evaluation: a founder, a head of ops or a practitioner who has a problem, a rough budget and no vendor shortlist yet. They ask an assistant to narrow the field before they visit a single website, and they ask follow-ups about integrations and pricing before they book a demo. Every one of those steps is a measurable prompt.
Prompts by intent
Category discovery
These prompts decide whether you exist in the shortlist at all — the highest-value and usually the weakest coverage area.
- What are the best project management tools for a 10-person remote team?
- Which customer support platforms work well for a B2B SaaS with 5,000 accounts?
- What software should a startup use to track product analytics on a small budget?
- Best tools for managing employee onboarding in a fully remote company?
- What are the leading options for B2B subscription billing in 2026?
Head-to-head comparison
Comparison prompts show whether AI answers describe your differentiator accurately or reduce you to a price point.
- Compare the two leading CRM platforms for a 30-person sales team.
- How does a dedicated analytics tool compare to the reporting built into our CRM?
- What are the trade-offs between an all-in-one suite and best-of-breed tools for support?
- Which is better for a technical team: a no-code workflow tool or a scripting-based one?
- What do teams gain and lose by moving from spreadsheets to a dedicated planning tool?
Integration and fit
Integration prompts are where a technically accurate mention wins the deal, and where outdated model memory hurts most.
- Which support tools integrate natively with a Postgres-based product database?
- What billing platforms work with Stripe and support usage-based pricing?
- Do any project tools sync two-way with GitHub issues?
- Which analytics tools can send events to a warehouse without a separate ETL tool?
- What tools support SSO and SCIM provisioning on mid-tier plans?
Pricing and budget
Pricing prompts expose whether an engine quotes your real published pricing or an outdated third-party estimate.
- How much should a 20-person company expect to pay for a CRM per year?
- Which B2B tools publish their pricing instead of hiding it behind a sales call?
- What is a realistic annual software budget for a 50-person SaaS company?
- Are per-seat or usage-based pricing models cheaper for a support team of six?
- Which vendors offer month-to-month billing instead of annual contracts?
Switching and migration
Switching prompts are bottom-of-funnel: the buyer has already decided to move and is choosing where to.
- What should we consider before migrating from one CRM to another?
- Which tools make it easy to export historical data if we leave?
- How long does a typical migration between support platforms take?
- What are the alternatives to the tool we currently use for release management?
- How do teams run two analytics tools in parallel during a migration?
Which engines matter here
B2B buyers cluster in ChatGPT and Perplexity for shortlist work, with Gemini appearing more in organisations standardised on Google Workspace. AI Overviews matter less for long evaluative questions and more for the short factual ones ("X pricing", "X vs Y"), which is why they are worth sampling on a subset of the prompt set rather than all of it.
What a report looks like
Illustrative report card — example output shape, not a customer measurement
| Prompt | Engine | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Best project management tools for a 10-person remote team | ChatGPT Search | Mentioned in 2 of 3 samples, cited own domain in 0 — described through a review site |
| Which billing platforms support usage-based pricing? | Perplexity Sonar | Mentioned in 3 of 3, own domain cited in 2 — documentation page is doing the work |
| CRM pricing for a 20-person company | Google AI Overviews | No overview generated in 2 of 3 checks — recorded as no_surface, not as a miss |
Common mistakes
- Tracking branded prompts only. "What is <your brand>" tells you the model knows your name, not whether you make shortlists.
- Writing prompts in vendor language. Buyers ask about problems and team sizes, not about "unified revenue orchestration".
- Ignoring integration prompts, which are where stale model memory most often produces a wrong answer about your product.
Frequently asked questions
- How many prompts does a B2B SaaS brand need to track?
- Thirty to forty is the usual working range: enough to cover five intent classes with several phrasings each, small enough to sample repeatedly without the cost becoming the reason you stop measuring.
- Should we track competitor brand names as prompts?
- Yes, a few — "alternatives to <competitor>" prompts are where switching demand shows up, and they are usually easier to win than pure category discovery prompts.
